White House to open media access to podcasters, influencers

The new press secretary announced on Tuesday that podcasters and social media affected would be allowed to apply for credentials to cover the White House.

In his first briefing, Karolin Lewit told reporters that a wide range individuals would be eligible to apply for the White House Press Crearent.

“We welcome independent journalists, podcasters, social media affected and content creators to apply for credentials to cover this White House,” said Lewit.

This step to open the White House is part of the administration’s purpose to significantly increase the number of journalists with the reach of the White House, Lavit said.

At the age of 27, Levit is the youngest person to work as a press secretary of the White House.

“Trump White House will talk to all media outlets and personalities, not only the heritage media that is sitting in this room,” said Levit. He cited a gallop pole showing less confidence in the media in the United States, especially among young people.

“As long as you are making day news materials and a valid, independent journalist, you are welcome to cover this White House,” he said.

Lewitt said that credentials would be given to those who meet the norms of the White House and pass a secret service background check.

Credit known as a hard pass makes it easier for journalists to participate in press briefing and reach the White House campus.

The Association of White House reporters did not respond to VOA’s request to comment immediately.

In his renovation campaign, Trump spoke to several podcasters and social media affected in an attempt to reach small Americans, directed to many conservative audiences.

In Tuesday’s briefing, Levit said that the administration intended to restore the credibility of around 440 journalists, whose badges, he said, was “incorrectly canceled” by the Biden administration in 2023.

In May 2023, Biden White House announced updated standards for nearby annual renewal. Only one journalist, who applied under the revised criteria, was denied a new pass, the White House told Politico at that time.

During Tuesday’s briefing, the Associated Press asked Lewit if she sees her job as a press secretary, as “as the President advocating or providing uncontrolled truth”.

Levit replied, “I am committed to tell the truth from this podium every day. I am committed to speak on behalf of the President. ,

Trump has a controversial relationship with news outlets that he accuses them of biased coverage. In recent months, he has filed several cases against the American media outlets, believing them to have improper coverage.
