“Heavy and persistent rainfall tonight and tomorrow means river levels are likely to remain high across parts of northern England, the Pennines and Midlands until the end of the week, with significant inland flooding possible by Thursday and minor impacts possible on Friday .

Stéphane Leger, flood duty manager at the Environment Agency, said:

It is expected to affect parts of Cheshire, Derbyshire and South Yorkshire for a few hours, forecasters said.

The Met Office warning extends from Settle to Preston in the Yorkshire Dales and parts of the Peak District.
