Wolves vs Manchester United: Premier League – Live | Premier League

major events

74 min: Double substitution for Wolves. Hwang Hee-chan and Tommy Doyle replaced Goncalo Guedes and Joao Gomes.

72 minutes Wolves are starting to sit on their 1-0 lead, which makes sense in the circumstances but is also risky. Keep in mind, United didn’t look to score all night.

70 minutes Antony cuts inside from the right and lofts the side netting with a low drive from 20 yards. It wasn’t a bad effort but Sa covered it.

share

69 minutes Wolves broke down four on four, only for Larsson to hit a cross straight at Onana. A better ball would have given Guedes a tap-in.

68 min Antony’s cross was headed goalwards by Casemiro and easily saved by Jose Sa.

65 minutes I am more convinced than ever that Man Utd have made a huge mistake by putting pressure on Amorim to join in mid-season. He needs as much time as possible on the training ground; Instead he needs to see his players show more goodwill every few days. I doubt he’ll be OK long term but this false start has already made next season more difficult than it needs to be.

63 min: Triple substitution for Man Utd Casemiro, Antony and Christian Eriksen replaced Lenny Yoro, Manuel Ugarte and Kobi Manu. If nothing else it will increase the average age of the party.

60 minutes That goal was coming from the moment Bruno Fernandes was sent off. Man Utd’s confidence appears to be wavering.

He tried the same in the first half also. Clipping an extraordinary inswinger under the crossbar. On that occasion Onana punched but this time under pressure from Doherty and Bueno he could not reach the ball and the ball went into the far corner.

Onana feels he was fouled by Doherty but the goal is cleared by VAR. I would like to see it again as Doherty raised his hand towards jockey Onana, although perhaps not enough to be a clear and obvious error.

Target Wolves 1-0 Man Utd (Cunha 58)

Matheus Cunha scores directly from a corner!

57 minutes Man Utd look like a team waiting to concede defeat. I would probably be tempted to bring in Garnacho for Hjolund and play him and Diallo as a split striker.

share

55 minutes Ait-Nouri’s crisp shot from the edge of the area was deflected by Maguire and dribbled towards Onana. It’s all Wolves now, as you would expect with their man getting the advantage.

share

54 minutes Wolves have been booked for delaying Ugarte’s restart. He will also miss the Newcastle match.

52 minutes Larsson’s first-time shot from a tight angle was beaten by Onana, although once again he went too early and was offside. If he can delay the running back, there are opportunities for him.

share

52 minutes It is Fernandes’ third red card of the season, although the first (against Spurs) was later overturned. This means he will miss Monday’s match against Newcastle at Old Trafford.

51 min “Radiohead. Yes, totally,” says Karen Asadi. “You could easily put ‘Let Down’ as the soundtrack to that first part.”

I was thinking about track 9 instead of track 5 on OK Computer.

50 minutes: No goal. Yes, Larson went more than a second quicker; It’s a shame because it was a clever finale.

share

50 min This is still being investigated…

49 min: Goal disallowed for Wolves! Semedo gets away from Dalot and hits a cross which is cleverly headed forward by Larsson. And then the flag goes up for offside. It is being investigated but I think Semedo was ahead of the ball when he played it.

Fernandes was sent off!

47 minutes It gets even worse for Man Utd. Bruno Fernandes, booked in the first half, makes a late tackle on Nelson Semedo and receives a second yellow card. He’s shaking his head but it wasn’t a great tackle. It was overzealous rather than malicious but he caught Semedo on the top of the foot.

“I’m no tactical genius,” Peter Oh says, “But it seems clear to me that the weather conditions call for fog-fog-two? Two solid banks of fog.”

Half Time: Wolves 0-0 Man Utd

As the wingman once said, ‘Not good. Not good.‘ (NB: The clip contains adult language.) Both teams played hard but the only consistent quality and joie de vivre came from Matheus Cunha in Wolves attack. This will have to improve in the second half. Correct?

45 minutes A minute of extra sweat and exertion.

share

44 minutes The scoreline is a clear reflection of a very poor first half performance. Wolves have been slightly more dangerous during United’s transitions in possession, but xG – around 0.25 each – tells the story.

42 minutes “When the commentator I was listening to said the fog had returned to Molineux, I wasn’t sure whether he meant it literally or figuratively,” Sister Liz White. “He also said both teams were ‘playing good football at times’, hahaha. Merry Christmas!”

The commentator clearly didn’t understand anything – oh never mind. Anyone for Radiohead?

41 min At the other end Diallo has a shot from the edge of the area which is well blocked by the stretching Totti.

39 minutes The corner almost caught Onana at the near post. He punches clear but Wolves come through again through Semedo, whose shot from 30 yards takes a huge deflection and deflects towards the goal. Onana struggles badly and is relieved to see him wandering away it farther along.
